The SAMM van and our Education Programs Manager, Celeste, visited the K - 2 classes at Idlehurst Elementary School in Somersworth last week!
They chatted about what it means for foods to be local, which foods are local to our region, and the importance behind "eating the rainbow". The kids learned a little bit about the ways different fruits and vegetables boost certain aspects of our health. Most importantly, the kids got to try some foods they may have never seen before that grow right here in the Seacoast, such as rhubarb (see the last two photos for their reactions🙃)! They also dipped their green thumbs into the world of gardening and planted their own seeds, learning about how to take care of them and ways to help them grow.
Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, June 6th at 5 pm, we will be participating in NH Gives, a 24-hour online fundraising event. Our focus this year is to raise funds for our youth education programs, such as classroom visits like this one. We also operate the crEATe program, kids activities at the farmers' markets, and facilitate field trips to local farms and food producers.
Please consider giving to Seacoast Eat Local this NH Gives to help keep programs like these running!
