Catch the Buzz: Beekeeping Workshop
September 29, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
$20 – $60
Join us for an outdoor beekeeping workshop at Emery Farm in Durham! A basic overview of what’s involved in beekeeping will be given – both as a hobby and an important agricultural activity at Emery Farm. We’ll cover: Basic equipment and supplies and cost; amount of time and effort required; and useful sources of information, instruction, and courses. There will also be plenty of time for Q&A and a farm walk to view the hives.
About the presenter: Lee Alexander has been a backyard beekeeper for over 40 years. A member of the Durham Agricultural Commission, he is the lead person for the “Bee Friendly” initiative and “Bee City USA” program. He also oversees the management of the honeybee apiary at Emery Farm.
Participants will also take home a jar of honey made on site!
What to bring: This is an outdoor event. Please dress accordingly and bring any items you need to be comfortable outside. Wear footwear that will be comfortable walking around a farm. If it is raining the discussion will take place inside the cafe seating area in the building on site.
Additional details: Parking for this event will be available in the Emery Farm Market & Cafe parking lot. This event will take place outside of the market building. A bathroom is available on site.
This workshop is being offered as a collaboration between Seacoast Eat Local and Emery Farm. 50% of your ticket sale will go to support the mission of Seacoast Eat Local: To cultivate a thriving food economy by building bridges between regional food producers and consumers.
