Small and Beginner Farmers of New Hampshire (SBFNH) is a statewide network of farmers who share knowledge, equipment and information. They are in need of a project manager for their Specialty Crop Block Grant, Farm Tools 101: Equipment Bank and How-To Workshops. The grant has been approved by USDA and is awaiting approval through the State of NH.
This is a two year contract position, expected to begin March 2014. Specific responsibilities will be determined based on candidate’s skills and availability. Maximum contracted payment is around $3,000 plus mileage. Some travel is required.
The project provides small and beginning growers access to agricultural equipment and mechanical skills to establish and improve the quality and yield of their specialty crops. Project goals include farmer safety and cost reduction.
The position requires
- Establishment of two equipment banks comprising a honey extractor, wheel hoe, flame weeder, BCS rotary plow, pipe benders and broad fork, to be rented to member specialty crop growers
- Organization of workshops on safe and effectiv
e equipment use, maintenance, repair and use of a pipe bender for low and high t unnels - Simple financial record keeping and report writing.
- have experience with small and beginner farmer issues (is a small or beginner farmer or has worked directly with them)
- be available to develop the program outlined in the grant starting March 2014
- have strong communication skills to work with the SBFNH state council and members, NH DAMF, NOFA-NH, workshop presenters and others
- have a working knowledge of agricultural agencies in New Hampshire.
