Celebrate Spring with local food!

The Spring thaw has arrived and before we know it the fields will be in bloom beginning the next harvest cycle over again! We are celebrating the return of Spring featuring Egg Day at the Indoor Farmers’ Market this Saturday, April 5th, from 10am to 2pm at the Wentworth Greenhouses in Rollinsford!

Market Highlights for April 5th

Featured Food: Eggs! We have a number of vendors bringing all sorts of eggs and will have a local egg Q&A with display area for you to learn about the many types of laying birds represented at farms all around New England. This week’s market will include duck, goose, chicken and even quail eggs! We’ll have plenty of recipes available and the farmers always have great ideas for using their products. If you can’t wait to start brainstorming meal ideas check out our Recipe Card pages featuring indoor market foods or our Egg Recipe Pinterest page!

Welcome a New Vendor — The New Hampshire Mushroom Company will be bringing a selection of their New Hampshire grown mushrooms, making the variety of local food available at the Indoor Farmers’ Market even more awesome!

• High Mowing Seeds from Seacoast Eat Local — Celebrate with local food at the greenhouse and start forming your own local food plans with High Mowing Organic Seeds for sale at the Seacoast Eat Local table. We’ve also got a number of great books to get you started with local growing and even small scale animal husbandry. Make 2014 the year you take the plunge and start raising your own food.

Food DonationsCornucopia Food Pantry will be accepting donations during the April 5th market. With your donation of farm fresh foods we are able to keep giving to those in need. Nearly 2,000 pounds of food have already been donated during the winter markets, let’s keep it up!

Composting at the Market — Think Spring with Mr. Fox Composting, they’ll be collecting compostable material and recyclables during the market like always. Extra parking and front door drop-off with our friendly shuttle service

Those of you that have been to the market before know parking can get a bit crowded at the beginning of the day. We always encourage folks to get together with friends and carpool, or to come later in the day. We also have overflow parking with our partner Salmon Falls Stoneware. A shuttle will bring you to and from the market at Wentworth Greenhouses throughout market hours. Click over to this map for market location and overflow parking.

Use SNAP and Debit Cards at the Market

All vendors at the Winter Farmers’ Markets accept SNAP/EBT! Visit the booth with the “Buy Your Tokens Here” sign to get started. Through Seacoast Eat Local’s Market Match program, receive up to an additional $10 free to buy fruits and vegetables! Debit cards can also be used to purchase tokens that can be used just like cash at the markets too! Learn more about how this program works at our website. This program is made possible through your generous donations, a partnership with Wholesome Wave, and founding and ongoing support from funds of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.

Show your support for local food and volunteer

Whether you are looking to be involved in the community, shop locally, eat more regionally grown and seasonal foods, or just get out and make new friends, be part of the growing movement and get involved with the SEL Winter Farmers’ Market! We look for a morning crew of at least 10 volunteers to help with market set-up (assist with vendor parking, helping unload vendor vehicles, and moving tables). We also need 7–8 friendly and outgoing foodies to help at our information booth and around the market. Even if you can’t make it to help at this market, sign up now to volunteer at a future market. Contact: Leo Smock-Randall, [email protected].
