Last Winter Farmers’ Market of the Season, April 13

Join us for Seacoast Eat Local’s final Winter Farmer’s Market of the season this Saturday, April 13th, at Exeter High School from 10am to 2pm!

As we wrap up another season of Winter Farmers’ Markets, we reflect on the importance of eating local: “If you want to change the world, change what you eat. Food is one area of your life where small modifications can have a big impact. For one thing, you probably eat three or four meals a day, so any decision you make is multiplied a thousandfold over the course of a year. Second, the industrial food system is so far-reaching that by opting out of it even partly, you can have a positive impact on biodiversity, global warming, oil exploration, fisheries, your water supply, community stability, family welfare, your health and appearance, and the beauty of your regional landscape.” — Celia Barbour (www.oprah.com)

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who has made the success of these markets possible: Our wonderful vendors who grow and produce such amazing food, the attendees who understand and appreciate the value of local food, our generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers, the musicians, non-profit organizations, local chefs, and everyone else who helped to create such a dynamic and diverse atmosphere.

We’ve enjoyed seeing you all at the winter markets, and as we transition into warmer weather, we hope you will continue to participate in the local food economy by attending the summer ones as well (check our website for a complete calendar listing) — and bring a friend or two!

Market Highlights

  • EGGS are the food of the day
  • Support the market and stock up on organic seeds, books, tote bags, and sea salt from Maine at our information table, or sign up to become a Friend of the Market!

Use SNAP & Debit Cards at the Market

All vendors at the Winter Farmers’ Markets accept SNAP/EBT! At the market, SNAP recipients can choose how much they would like to spend that day on food purchases. A market staff member will then swipe their EBT card for that amount. The customer is then given wooden tokens, which are used just like cash, and can be used to buy food at approved vendors at the market. Learn more about shopping with SNAP. Support for this program is provided by the Thomas W. Haas Fund and Josephine A. Lamprey Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.
