Land For Good and Maine Farmland Trust invite you to “Leasing Your Land: An Informational Workshop for Landowners and Farmers” on Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 1pm-4pm at Laudholm Farm, 342 Laudholm Farm Rd., Wells, ME. Light refreshments made with local ingredients will be served.

This workshop is for private landowners interested in making their land available to farmers for agricultural production  and farmers interested in leasing issues.

Topics will include:
• Assessing your land and understanding the needs of farmer-tenants
• Crafting a lease suitable for both parties
• Legal, financial, tax, insurance, liability and other considerations
• Finding a farmer and maintaining good communications
• Resources to support the landowner, including the new handbook, “Leasing to a Farmer”

Presenters will include Pete Westover from Conservation Works, LLC; Jo Barrett from Land for Good, and Erica Buswell from Maine Farmland Trust. A local farmer will also be on hand to discuss the benefits and challenges associated with leasing farmland and to answer audience questions. Light refreshments sourced from local farms will be offered.
